Each year, Dustin's Adventureland hosts over 100 special needs children and their parents for an egg hunt designed to allow children of all abilities to participate. Tons of wonderful local partners allow us to fill thousands of eggs for this event with candy, fidgets, stuffed animals, tickets to be exchanged for larger prizes, and more.
While entertainment differs year to year, we've previously included craft tables, face painting, balloon animals, magic acts, and (of course) a visit from our friend the Easter Bunny and some of his pals.
Organizations that serve children with disabilities are invited and welcome to set up resource tables at the event. You can reach out at dustinsadventureland@gmail.com for more info.
Registration can be found posted each year on our Facebook page.
Every Summer, Dustin's Adventureland holds a fishing rodeo at the Mechanicsville Game & Fish where special needs children and their families are invited to come fish in a relaxing environment with music, food, and all needed fishing equipment including rods, hooks, and bait provided for those who don't have their own.
Challenges such as biggest fish caught or next fish caught are called throughout the event with cash or other prizes for the children who win. All of the above, including food and drink, is absolutely free to the families who attend due to the generosity of our community who helps supply everything needed to operate annually.
Historically, this event has served as fun for over 20 families, though there is absolutely room for more. The board of directos announces open-registration on Facebook each year, so watch there for updates.
Each year Dustin's invites local special needs children to come experience the holidays in a sensory friendly way. Each child who participates is given a time to arrive as to avoid crowding and over-stimulation. During their visit, children receive a bag of presents designated for their gender and age-range, cookies from Mrs. Claus, and a visit from Santa Claus himself!
As with all of our events, it is made possible only through the support of many organizations and generous elves who not only donate money or toys to the event but also help with sorting and wrapping those gifts.
The current variation of this event listed above started in 2024. Previously, the toy drive delivered gifts directly to approximately 150 children from struggling families alongside meals prepped by the St Pat's Soup Kitchen on Christmas Eve.
As always, the event and it's details as well as registration will be posted on our Facebook page when available.
